Chief Judge Pepper Seeking Term Law Clerk


The U.S. District court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin is seeking a full-time, term, judicial law clerk for Chief Judge Pamela Pepper. The duration of this position is one year, with possible extensions of up to a total of four years, at the judge’s discretion.

 

A term law clerk assists the judge and chambers staff with managing the civil and criminal caseload, researches and drafts opinions and memoranda for the judge’s review and editing and prepares the judge for case-related hearings, conferences and trials. The position requires excellent research and writing skills, strong time management skills and the ability to manage a heavy caseload.

 

Applicants must be available to start on or after March 30, 2026. Although Chief Judge Pepper may authorize limited remote work on occasion under specific circumstances, the position is an in-person position and the selected applicant will be expected to work in person at the federal building and courthouse in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Applicants must provide their own, original writing samples and other written materials; applicants must not submit written work that is composed or edited using generative AI tools.
